Preserving Tiffin’s Architectural Heritage

Established in 1976, the Tiffin Historic Trust is a volunteer organization, whose mission is to promote preservation in Tiffin by a variety of means, with an emphasis on the restoration of local architectural landmarks. Over the years it has been influential in the design of the replacement bridges over the Sandusky River, encouraged the implementation of a design review code, has sponsored preservation workshops and provided guidance on building restoration, successfully submitted entries to the National Register of Historic Places, and sought the preservation of significant architectural works within the community. At its annual meeting the group presents preservation awards for the restoration of commercial and residential properties. The Historic Trust most recently purchased and the city installed, the replacement signs designating Tiffin’s six Historic Districts.

The Historic Trust’s programming committee hosts summer teas in the Grammes-Brown House, displaying the restoration of the Victorian era home, holds an annual holiday house tour including historic as well as contemporary homes, and organizes garden tours as fund raisers to support its preservation efforts. Future plans include holding educational programs for the community focusing on the preservation of the architectural heritage of our neighborhoods, encouraging the establishment of a museum and gallery alliance of local organizations, supporting the establishment of a Main Street program, and continuing the restoration of the Grammes-Brown House property.
